We have been pretty vocal about our sandwich obsession, so it is a little upsetting that is has taken us this long to discover The Smörgåstårta. It isn’t exactly cake, nor is it a sandwich, it lies somewhere in a magical fantasy food realm all of its own.
A staple in Sweden, Finland and Estonia, this hybrid sandwich cake can be constructed from any combination of your favourite savoury foods held together in a cake shape by creamy fillings and soft, freshly baked bread. Some of the more tradtional ingredients include: liver paté, olives, shrimp, ham, various cold cuts, caviar, tomato, cucumber, cheese and smoked salmon.
So bad it’s good. This collection of advertisements from way back when stopped us in our tracks today. We got to thinking whether what we’re doing today will be viewed in 20 years time as being outrageous. Outrageously awesome. Probably.
